Filming Diary - little mix prelim

Today was our first day of filming, We walked over to the drama studio where we were due to film the scenes, but due to a double booking of the room we were un-able to film there, but luckily there was a second drama room that was available. This one was good and contained a bookshelf and desks that we could use as background props but the lighting was dark which made the quality of the footage bad.
We then got everything in position and made sure that it looked good. it took us a while to get all of the shots as it was hard to film without being able to see what it looked like and having to get up to press record then attempt to sit down in the exact same place. but we managed it and it worked out fine.
later that day we filmed the final scene in the dining hall.

Prelim task - Little mix

Preliminary Task Evaluation - little mix prelim

Make sure you have uploaded props list, final video practise and evaluation.

1) Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?

I worked with Lucy Harding, Olivia Plumpton and Bonnie Fitch in order to create our prelim task. Together we worked very well, we all got along and contributed to the piece well. One of the first things we did was take a look at all that needed to be done and we decided who was going to focus on what, we decided that Lucy would do the storyboard, Olivia would research the lyrics we all then went out during a lesson and took recce shots, I made a run down of everything that was in each shot including props and room features for example the large windows in the corridor scene, this helped with the recce shots.

2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?

We planned what we were going to film due to the availability of what rooms were available, we split up the shooting into two separate parts, due to them being in different locations and including different costumes. I then went out and asked people if they were willing to be extras in our prelim.

3) What theories could you apply to the video you chose?
We could apply the male gaze theory to our music video, although it is directed to young teenage girls there are still sexualised elements (the short mote revealing outfits) we could also apply the star gaze to this because there are quite a few close ups of the artists.

4) What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?
we used...
a camera to film the shots.
a tripod to keep the camera steady when filming.
and adobe premier to edit the footage and add all of the special effects like the fire and flying.

5) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
when we were planning we had to take into account that some of the filming locations would not be available and that it was going to be very hard and time consuming to edit.

6) How successful was your music video copy? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently? What did others say about your production?
i personally think that we did quite well with all of the effects although some of them weren't to the quality that we wanted but with the time we had and the skills we had at that point we couldn't do any better. if i could do it again i would re shoot some of the shots so that they fitted with the timing perfectly and i would make sure i was more confident using all of the software.

7) What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing your music video, do you think?
I have learnt that i need to manage my time better and make sure that everyone in our group is involved, i also learnt how to do things that on adobe premier that i didn't know you could, this will help with when we come to do our final piece as i will be more familiar with the software, we have also learnt that the more people that contribute the easier and better it will be.

8) How does it compare with filming an opening to a film?
i found that it is a lot easier than filming an opening scene because it doesn't have to make sense. And as there ins't speech you don't have to worry about how to get the sound perfect and making it work alongside everything else.

9) What are your strengths and weaknesses as a group member?
I believe that my strengths as a group member are that i try and involve everyone and work as much as a team as i can making sure that everyone is happy, my weakness is probably that i like everything to be perfect and crisp.

10) Looking at the other group's videos which do you think were most successful and why?
I really liked the e-45 song as it was filmed and edited to look exactly like the original.
